While studying at Robert College, she started to get joy of working in the field of education thanks to the social responsibility projects she attended. When she was studying Sociology at Boğaziçi University, she started to travel in order to discover herself with the help of encountering different cultures. She realized that living in a calm and productive city is possible in Slovenia where she was an exchange student. She learnt Balfolk dances during her exchange year and visited many European countries in order to participate in Balfolk dance festivals. After she returned to Turkey, she realized that the only way she could continue to Balfolk dances was teaching them to other people. So, she started giving Balfolk dance courses.
Among the different projects and programs she worked in various positions in the field of education, learning with children in summer camps was her top experience. At the Green School, which has a mission to “educate for a sustainable world” in Bali, she developed projects in which different age groups could work together, she thought over entrepreneurship and sustainability together with students. In 2016, she started to work in Teachers Network project conducted by Education Reform Initiative and ATOLYE.
Gökçen likes dancing, reading books, writing, drinking coffee and eating cakes with her beloved ones, in addition to going out of her comfort zone from time to time.
